Keith Brown MSP met with staff and toured the technical textiles facilities of the Don & Low industrial site at Newfordpark House, Forfar, on Wednesday 5th July. As part of his tour of local Scottish businesses, Don & Low was one of several planned visits across Scotland.
As one of Forfar’s eldest and most well-established companies, Don & Low has been a prominent figure within the local community since 1792. With over 200 years of manufacturing experience our innovative company has grown from strength to strength, capitalising on new market opportunities ranging from the traditional to technical textiles and nonwoven fabrics.
Today we employ over 500 staff, 83% of which are from Forfar and the surrounding Angus area, which makes us one of the main employers locally and one of the few remaining textile manufacturing employers in Scotland.
Economy Secretary Keith Brown, said: "Technical textiles manufacturer Don & Low has been established in Forfar for more than 200 years. Continued product innovation, identifying emerging trends and adapting to the needs of new markets and customers have been critical to the company’s success.
“It was a pleasure to receive a tour of the company's manufacturing facility and to meet with some of its 500 talented staff, seeing their work in action. The Scottish Government launched our Manufacturing Action Plan earlier this year and we are determined to do all that we can to support companies like Don & Low, so they can continue to flourish and grow."
Mark Newstead, Managing Director of Don & Low, added: “We have numerous high-tech capabilities on site, which we are constantly developing to enhance our product and service offering to the market. With ongoing and continuous investment plans for Newfordpark House we plan to secure our future, and the future of the local community, for the next 200 years.”
This year we will celebrate our 225th anniversary for technical textiles and 30th anniversary for nonwovens.
